Scholarship Types

Who is eligible?

Pasco County students, primarily 7th and 9th graders are selected for the Take Stock in Children program based on family income, parental support, good behavior, good grades, attendance, teacher recommendation, determination, goals and other factors.

Students must meet the economic eligibility guidelines established by the State of Florida for free/reduced lunch status. Click here for 2007-2008 guidelines.

Students must fulfill contractual obligations in order to receive the Take Stock in Children scholarship after high school graduation. Click here to view a sample contract.

Obligations include:

  • Attend school on a regular basis
  • Maintain a minimum of a "C" or 2.0 GPA
  • Demonstrate positive behavior, in and out of school
  • Meet with a volunteer mentor on a regular basis
  • Remain crime and drug free
  • Graduate from a Florida high school

21st Century Scholarship Fund of Pasco County Schools eligibility requirements are the same with the addition of a demonstrated talent in the fields of math, science and/or technology

What do selected students receive?

Students selected receive up to a 2 + 2 Florida Prepaid Foundation college scholarship or a vocational /Technical school scholarship. This can include full tuition to attend two years at a community college followed by two years at a university, or full tuition for two years attendance at a vocational or trade school. Take Stock in Children scholarship can be combined with other scholarship opportunities.

How do I apply?

The deadline for applications for the 2007-08 school year has passed. Please check with your student's guidance counselor to find out when applications will be accepted for the 2008-09 school year.

Selection will be announced no later than March 31, 2008. All new recipients will need to attend the Take Stock in Children Signing Event scheduled for April 17, 2008 at Chuck Rushe Middle School.
